What a weekend. Four days in the Hunter Valley, near-perfect weather, and the kind of golf stories that only work at the Balgownie afterwards.

Matt Lynch took Calderwood with 42 points. Greg Johnston and Glenn Irwin were a shot back on 41.

Tim Love won Kiama with 41 points. Peter Lewis, Lee Tsiamis, Rod Simpson and Nev Cadona packed the next four spots on 35.

It may be called Boomerang but we won’t be returning any time soon. Captain Murphy has already booked Shoalhaven Heads instead.

Another big field of 47 members tackled the Wollongong layout. The course was set up for scoring, and 21 players managed handicap or better.

Nineteen golfers, three Canberra courses — Royal Canberra, Federal, Gold Creek — and a trip that has become a fixture on the Bally calendar.

Bally teed it up for the Cancer Council’s Longest Day at Wollongong Golf Club — 72 holes, a very early start, and a very good cause.
